From Inquiry to Understanding | 4th Edition

Executive Editor Professor Pat Dudgeon AM and Associate Editors Belle Selkirk and Joanna Alexi

Co-authored and led by established professionals in Indigenous psychology, the Australian Indigenous Psychology Education Project UWA and Pearson Australia published the 4th edition of Psychology: From Inquiry to Understanding. This edition proudly showcases the importance of #decolonisation in research and academic writing. Proudly espousing diversity, equity, and inclusion and actively incorporating the rich knowledge and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures into the field of #psychology #education. By doing so, it ensures a more accurate, comprehensive and culturally safe learning experience for all students.

Communication for Community Workshop | 28 November 2024

Sessions will include

  • the importance of communicating the work we do as Indigenous researchers

  • how and why, we share our work

  • how sharing work can lead to positive outcomes for communities, and help to make our work more relevant across contexts

  • translating our work for different forums, and picking the right forum for your purpose

  • a writing exercise - bring your laptop and/or notebook

Workshop is open to all Indigenous PhD scholars from any Australian university, working in health and wellbeing, so get your registration in quick!

National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC)

NHMRC-Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) 2024 Grant Opportunity

The NHMRC is providing $3 million to support Australian researchers participating in the joint NHMRC-CIHR 2024 Grant Opportunity. This Grant Opportunity runs through CIHR’s Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA) and will fund Canada-Australia joint research teams addressing any of the recognised forms of dementia in Indigenous populations.

Centre Research Excellence 2025

The objectives of the CRE scheme are to improve health outcomes and promote or improve translation of research outcomes into policy and/or practice. The CRE scheme will also support researchers in capacity building activities, including in specific areas of need identified by NHMRC.

Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)

National Critical Research Infrastructure Initiative

The 2024 National Critical Research Infrastructure initiative invests in research infrastructure to ensure Australian researchers find innovative solutions to complex health problems in areas of unmet medical need. This grant opportunity has four streams.

Integrated Multidisciplinary Models of Primary Care Grant Opportunity

This Grant Opportunity will support medical research and medical innovation projects that evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of new or existing models of integrated, multidisciplinary team-based primary care for people who would most benefit from this type of care, including but not limited to First Nations Australians, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability including intellectual, children, older populations (either in residential aged care homes or those ageing at home), or those with social disadvantage or multiple chronic conditions.

Genomics Health Futures Mission Futures
(GHFM) Grant Opportunity

The MRFF – GHFM | 2024 Genomics Health Futures Grant Opportunity will provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that develop and/or implement novel genomic methods to improve diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, for infectious diseases, common and complex conditions and cancers, and develop and/or implement pharmacogenomic approaches to reduce medication harm and adverse side effects. 

This grant opportunity includes six funding Streams.

New South Wales Health

Aboriginal Health Grants | Closes 13 December 2024

The Aboriginal Heart Health Grants fund high impact Aboriginal-led research. The $5 million in funding is part of the Cardiovascular (CV) Research Capacity Program and aim to:

-        improve CV health outcomes for Aboriginal peoples
-        increase the number of targeted Aboriginal CV research projects being undertaken in NSW, and
-        build the capacity of Aboriginal communities and researchers in CV focused research.

Who can apply

All projects must be led by a Chief Investigator who identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Applications are encouraged from Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Aboriginal Medical Services, Aboriginal peak bodies, local health districts, specialty health networks and other public health organisations.

Researchers from universities, medical research institutes and not-for-profit organisations are also eligible to apply.

Indigenous Media Mentoring program | 9 & 10 April 2025

Following on from the successful Indigenous Media Mentoring Program held at the Sydney studios of National Indigenous TV / Special Broadcasting Service in early April 2024, they have announced the next two day program will be 9 & 10 April 2025.

The AusSMC (Australian Science Media Centre) is passionate about encouraging Indigenous scientists to engage with the media. By sharing their knowledge, expertise and stories, Indigenous scientists can inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
