NHMRC Synergy Grant Outcome

NHMRC Synergy Grant Outcome

Congratulations to the team for the ‘Stronger Together As Unified Nations for Community-led Health (STAUNCH)’ project

The team led by Associate Prof. Veronica Matthews, have been recently awarded an NHMRC Synergy Grant. Their 5-year, $5 million grant is titled ‘Stronger Together As Unified Nations for Community-led Health (STAUNCH)’. Below is a plain description of the grant.

With the rejection of the Voice to Parliament, processes of Indigenous Nation Building are more important than ever to enable First Nation communities to organise and prepare for renegotiated power relationships with government. Governments also need to prepare for new ways of working with communities, to deeply listen and operate more holistically and inclusively. STAUNCH melds nation building and health in all policy approaches to realise self-determined community health and wellbeing plans.

Dr Veronica Matthews from the Quandamooka community is an Associate Professor at the University Centre for Rural Health, The University of Sydney. Her work centres on improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander holistic health care systems through quality improvement, systems-thinking and community-based participatory research.
