Aboriginal Staff Network (ASN)

The Kids Research Institute Australia’s Aboriginal Staff Network (ASN) gathered in Perth/ Boorloo this week for their annual “Coming Together Network” meeting. Director of First Nations Leadership and Strategy, Associate Professor Glenn Pearson provided the opening address, highlighting The Kids Research Institute Australia’s (The Kids) new strategic plan, “Research Reimagined.”

The agenda featured diverse presentations, including;

  • Professor Roz Walker from the Coolamon Research and Advocacy Centre, who emphasised the significance of Aboriginal-led translational research at the Ngangk Yira Institute for Change.

  • Associate Professor Anthony Kicic discussed the integration of Aboriginal culture in Phage WA research, showcasing his commitment to understanding Aboriginal ways of knowing.

  • Caitlin and Denise from The Kids Research Governance team presented “The Human Side of Research Governance and Integrity,” highlighting the need for Aboriginal advisers and diverse cultural perspectives in governance.

  • Leon and Raelene Hayward, along with Justin Kickett from the Ear Health Aboriginal Community Advisory Group, shared their decade-long journey in research at The Kids, stressing the importance of a focused approach in making a difference for children and families.

The day concluded with a collaborative painting activity reflecting the theme of ‘Walking in Two Worlds.’

The gathering provided an opportunity for community members, researchers, and Elders to connect and discuss their impact on Aboriginal research projects. You can follow them here.

The grant program aims to support implementation of innovative approaches to accelerate the delivery of culturally safe, accessible, and responsive cancer care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Program Name | Improving First Nations Cancer Outcomes

The Partnerships for Cancer Research grant program will invest $9,600,000 over three years to strengthen cancer research to improve the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and to build the capacity of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer research sector. 

Estimated Grant Value (AUD) Between $800,000 to $2,500,000
Over a maximum 3-year grant period commencing in June 2025.
Up to 12 grants will be awarded.

Department of Health and Aged Care

MRFF 2024 Clinical Trials Activity Grant Opportunity GO7146

The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects in clinical trials. There are four streams in this offer ranging from pilot studies (stream 1) to implementation science trial (stream 4).

Integrated Multidisciplinary Models of Primary Care Grant

Opportunity GO7154

This Grant Opportunity will support medical research and medical innovation projects that evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of new or existing models of integrated, multidisciplinary team-based primary care for people who would most benefit from this type of care, including but not limited to First Nations Australians, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability including intellectual, children, older populations (either in residential aged care homes or those ageing at home), or those with social disadvantage or multiple chronic conditions.

National Science Week Grants 2025 GO7026

National Science Week is Australia’s major national celebration of the sciences, occurring in August each year. National Science Week will be held from 9 to 17 August 2025.
