National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)

Forecast Opportunity View – Centres of Research Excellence (CRE) 2025 - This is a heads up for the upcoming call for NHMRC CREs 2025.

Stemming from the Indigenous Research Excellence Criteria Review, all applicants must describe how their proposed research could benefit Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health and contribute to Closing the Gap targets. Responses will be considered in the overall assessment of the application.

OCHRe Convocation 2024

NHMRC response to Slido questions from attendees

There were nine Slido questions to the NHMRC at the OCHRe Convocation 27 – 28 April 2024. The questions covered a number of areas including: Targets for First Nations CIAs, how NHMRC ensures the integrity of research for First Nations communities, how can new researchers build their track records, and how does the NHMRC develop their strategies to address the Closing the Gap targets.

Health Research Experience Scholarships

An important initiative of OCHRe is to develop the next generation of Indigenous health researchers, and we are excited to announce the relaunch of the Health Research Experience Scholarships as part of our OCHRe NEXGEN Hub.

For this round, NEXGEN Hub will offer 12 Health Research Experience Scholarships (Scholarships) of $4,000 each. The Scholarships provide access to health research experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders enrolled in an undergraduate degree or a masters degree by course work, to work on a defined aspect of research.

This offer will be extended exclusively to all OCHRe investigators listed on the NHMRC application 2005944 https://www.ochrenetwork.org/investigators

Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences | Two PhD Scholarships

Two exciting PhD scholarship opportunities aligned with an MRFF funded project to foster a healthy start to life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. This opportunity is only for domestic applicants with valid working rights.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are automatically eligible for UoM PhD scholarship stipend of $52,300 pa. Additionally, a top-up of $15,000 (+$5,000 travel support) pa funded by the Relighting the Firesticks project will be offered by the Indigenous Health Equity Unit, for a total of $72,300 pa.

Fund Raising for Pacific Region Indigenous Doctors Congress | October 2024

AHCWA respectfully asks you to consider supporting the Ngalla Bidi Bursary. With each bursary valued at $8,000*, ACHWA are keen to get as many contributions as possible.

AHCWA aims to increase the number of Aboriginal Doctors delivering health care to Aboriginal people in Western Australia. To achieve this, they aspire to send 40 Aboriginal Medical Students and Junior Doctors to the biennial PRIDoC in Adelaide this year.

Donations accepted until 30 September 2024 allowing bursaries to be awarded in October 2024.
